Clashing After School Activities
Teachers are constantly telling their students to be involved in school activities. The seventh and eighth-grade students of Park View Middle School, Mukwonago WI, run into problems with after school actives throughout the year. Many sports and clubs run at the same so what happens if you want to do both? How you manage?
School sport meet every day except Wednesdays here at PVMS and clubs meet two to three times a week. How could you do both? If you couldn’t attend all meetings for clubs you wouldn’t be able to be in them anymore. If you wanted to do a sport and couldn’t attend all the practices you wouldn’t be able to play in the games.
This year volleyball try-outs and Drama club auditions ran at the same time. I talked to a few of my friends who wanted to do both had a few things to say. Leighton Jeske said, “I can’t try out for volleyball, it’s too much to handle and even though I really like volleyball”. An anonymous person said, “It's too hard doing two big activities I got a life I can’t dedicate my life to constantly running around trying to make something work when I can”. Then Alle Lewis stated, “I feel bad that I'm going out for these school activities when I know I can only commit to one”.
I think the teachers who are orchestrating after school should make sure to not have overlapping activities. Or allow students to miss some meetings or practices if they are in other activities. Students should be able to do what they want and if they want to do two activities that run at the same time teachers should respect that and let them do both.
