The Dog Walk
One day I was sitting on the couch being lazy and decided to take my dog for a walk since I didn’t have anything else to do. I never really take her on walks because she’s fat and when we’re halfway through with the walk she will just lay down on the ground and give up. But she still likes to go sometimes. So I went and brought the leash out of the closet and she already knew what was happening. She started to get excited and so she began jumping from couch to couch. When we went outside, I decided to go a different way than the usual way we went. My dog was used to going the other way and was confused on what was happening.
So, we were walking when all of a sudden I heard barking behind us. I looked back quickly and seen there was a dog that was out of its yard. I quickly picked up my dog when I saw it running towards us. As soon as I picked her up the dog had jumped on me and bit my dog's leg but it wasn’t an aggressive bite. It looked like the dog only wanted to play with her. So I chased the dog away and put her back on the ground. She kept trying to pull me to walk faster, but I didn’t want to walk fast so I kept pulling her back.
She started to twist and turn and then she eventually got off the leash. Once she got off the leash, she began to run. I was worried she would get hit by a car or something bad would happen to her. So, I started to run after her while calling her name. She looked back at me and seen I was chasing her. She thought I was trying to play with her and she began to run faster. She started to go off of the sidewalk and went into the road where there were a lot of cars speeding. I go was getting even more worried seeing that she was almost getting hit by every car that went by.
She eventually ran into an apartment complex. I knew she wouldn’t be able to run out of there because it was all closed off so I finally stopped running and took a breath while walking into the complex. I looked for her but couldn’t find her anywhere. I called her name out loud and heard barking. The barking came from inside an apartment and it sounded like her bark. But how would she get into an apartment? I looked around more until I couldn’t find her and went to see what apartment the barking was coming from. So I called her name one more time and found out what apartment I heard the barking from. I knocked on the door and a woman opened it.
“Have you seen a little dog that looks like this?” I asked while I showed her a picture.
“No, I'm sorry. But good luck.” She said as she quickly tried closing the door.
I put my foot in the way of the door to block it from closing.
“Are you sure?”
“Yes I’m sure."
“I thought I heard my dog barking. Do you have your own dog?”
“No, I don’t have any dogs in here. I’m sorry.”
“Red” I called my dog's name one more time and heard barking right after. “Give me my dog back”
“I told you I don’t have your dog.”
“Yes you do. I just heard her barking. I’m not leaving until I get her back.”
“Well it looks like you will be here all day then because I don’t have your dog.”
So I stood at the door for almost ten minutes with my foot in the door's way so she couldn’t close it. Ok well I’m not going lie it was probably only like three minutes but it still felt like a long time because we were just staring at each other saying nothing. She knew she wasn't going to keep my dog so she finally just gave up. She turned around and went into the apartment, went into a room, came out with my dog and slammed the door to the room. She handed me my dog carelessly like it was a stuffed animal or something.
“Thank you.” I said with a fake smile on my face.
“Yeah, whatever.”
She rolled her eyes at me like I took her dog away from her or something. When I grabbed my dog, she gave me a dirty look and then slammed the door in my face. So I put the leash on my dog and left. When I got out of the apartment complex, I looked around to not knowing where I was. I didn’t pay attention to where I went when I was chasing her. So I started walking hoping I would recognize one of the streets. I saw a street that looked familiar so I turned down it. I saw two big dogs and got scared so I picked my dog up and was hoping they didn’t see her. I crossed the street so I wouldn’t be on the same side as them and walked past them quickly and then I looked over my shoulder to see them turning around looking at me. I kept walking with my dog in my arms until they turned back around and started walking again. I finally put my dog back down on the floor.
I still couldn’t find my way back home. I was looking down every street I passed and nothing looked familiar. I pulled out my phone to go on Google Maps but it was dead. So if anything bad happened then I wouldn’t be able to call anybody. So I had to hope that I didn’t get into any trouble. I finally got to the end of the road I was walking on and I could only turn left or right. I saw that the corner store was on the left and I knew my way home from there so I turned left. Then I finally found the street my house was on and I got so excited to finally be almost home.
I was a couple of houses away from my house when she got off the leash again. But she was too tired to run again, so she just stayed by my side the rest of the way home. Then when we finally made it home, my dog looked so excited to be home. She didn’t hesitate on what she would do. She went straight to her bed and didn’t waste anytime ongoing to sleep. Then I went back to the couch and just sat there being lazy again.
