Bus
It was a windy morning in October when I made the best decision of my life. I decided to take the bus to school one day instead of driving myself. I don't know exactly what it was, but something had driven me to ride the bus that morning. Anyways, I slowly treaded onto the bus as I looked at all the unfamiliar faces. I was intrigued because each face was a cover to a book, an unknown story. I found an empty seat on the right hand side and made myself comfortable for the upcoming twenty minute ride.
The bus had made a couple of stops for others to get on, but one caught my eye. This particular boy had my attention not because of his looks but because of his energy. He had delightfully gotten onto the bus while greeting everyone with a smile. That smile took my breath away. I immediately sat up straight when he approached me. He asked if anyone was sitting next to me and of course I said no and slid right over. It seemed unreal that someone looking like him would want to sit next to me. Immediately, he started conversation. At this point, I was already sweating buckets because his presence just made me nervous. We talked the whole way to my school and exchanged phone numbers.
I thought that would be the last time I would ever see him because boys usually don't really follow up. When I got off I felt a feeling of absence and looked down as I twiddled my thumbs. I then continued on with my day as if this experience had never happened. The short memories I made with him kept crossing my mind. I just tried to forget.
That night I sat and waited by the phone and hoped and prayed he would call. I had gotten so desperate that I called him-but it went straight to voicemail. At this point I had just given up and gone to sleep.
The next morning I avoided the bus and drove to school. Still bummed, I put my head down in class and waited for the day to be over. All of the sudden there was a knock on the classroom door. It was an office aid calling me down to the office. Scared I had gotten in trouble, my palms started to sweat. I made my way up to the office and there he was. The boy I had met on the bus was standing in the doorway with a bouquet of flowers. I was extremely confused because he hadn't called me back. I hesitantly walked up to him and he said “I missed you on the bus today.”
Ever since that day, we’ve been happily in love. I’m grateful he never left my mind.
