German Bread Dumplings
Recipe
1 pound of loaf stale french bread, cut into 1 inch cubes
1 cup of milk
2 tablespoons of butter
1 onion finely chopped
2 eggs
½ teaspoon of salt
½ pinch of black pepper
½ a cup of dry bread crumbs
This is a secret family recipe that dates way back to my great ancestors in Germany, this recipe has been being made in my family for a long time and has been continuously passed down from generation to generation making it very special for me and my family.
The first time I ever had the famous Merbeth dumplings was when I was 7 years old, I remember it like it was yesterday. We had are family over for christmas dinner like we do every year.
As per usual the dining room was full of food including the dumplings which for some reason i thought was duck when I was younger I have no clue why. My dad asked me if i wanted one and I said no it's duck and he said it is just some bread with gravy on it.
So i took my fork and slowly and hesitently moved it towards my mouth and took a bite, from that day forward my life was changed forever.
