Fence Building
The salty sweat dripped down my neck as the intensity surrounded my thoughts of exhaustion. I Jabbed the opening with a shovel until the cobblestone inside became extinct. In need for help I requested for Josh to come over and break the rock with “The Rock Breaker.” After he partly destroyed the rock there was still more to be done.
Melissa our counselor yelled to pair up for each hole. Richie appeared and we were both assigned to finish the hole. It seemed like it would be impossible to finish. Suddenly the adrenaline kicked in the second that our counselor said “when we finish we will go to the sand dunes”. Immediately the pace fastened.
We all rushed towards Josh to ask him to break the giant rocks in our holes. Once Richie and I got help from Josh we snatched our shovels from the ground to dig. Rulers went around to measure the holes. Richie and I’s hole needed about 6 more inches for us to be finished. As we continued the vigorous task cement started to travel to the finished holes. Seeing that some people were done encouraged us to finish with momentum.
We all became eager to finish with 3 more inches to go. I started to doubt that we would finish. We could not let the doubts get to us even though we were almost there. “We are almost done guys” our counselor Bibi said as she gobbled down a grapefruit. Our shovels punished the grain inside the hole.”One more inch” Richie declared. A few minutes later we finished.
Now, we moved on to putting the posts in and sealing it with cement. I went over and picked up the cement containers and put them in the wheelbarrow. Melissa held the post in the hole as she exclaimed “Water!”. Finn twisted the nozzle and then the water traveled through the rugged pipe towards the holes. Once we filled the holes with water and cement which kept the post in the ground we moved on to the next hole.
Then we all got to each of our breaking points. Even though we were tired we still needed to finish. We still had 5 more holes to fill so we took a short break then continued. After we finished the second post almost every kid was where the hose was sitting in exhaustion.
Our counselors next said that if we didn’t get enough volunteers to finish the job that we would not go to the sand dunes. Naturally most of us got up and went over to finish the rest of the holes. The last hole was not in the right spot so we had to move it a little bit. The last task took a long time because of how tired everyone was. When we finally finished everything we got into the cars and drove to the glorious sand dunes.
