At the end of last June, my grandpa had been sick for a very long time.  He had pneumonia, so he was in the hospital for a while and lost a lot of weight.  He had been sick for a long time before, so as usual, we all expected him to recover.  My grandma had said that he was doing pretty good and that it was a good time to come visit them in the physical rehab facility he was in.

When we got there, we walked in and found his room right away.  The room was really nice and appeared comfortable.  The walls were a light beige color.  There was a big TV on the wall facing the bed and there were paintings all around the room.  The room was warm and welcoming, like somebody’s home.

“Hi! How are you guys doing?” he greeted us.  He had more energy than we expected, so when we left, we were all very optimistic.

The morning of my brother’s graduation party, we got a phone call.  I thought that it was probably just a work call for my dad, so I didn’t think it was anything unusual.  Then, I heard my dad greet our grandma, which was weird.

“She only calls on Sunday nights,” I thought to myself.  I started to think of all the possible reasons she could be calling us on a Saturday morning.  My dad got off the phone.

“He died,” he said in a sad tone.  This took all of us by surprise.  I realized that life could end so fast and that you never know when something like this can happen.  It was that moment that I decided to live every day with the things he taught me in mind and to live life to the fullest.  Anything can happen.
