Everyone has their anthem. For me there are many anthems. Many songs filled with unmatchable memories or indescribable happiness, but there is one song in particular that takes the top spot. This song is “Holiday” by Madonna.

I was born in 1999 but I think my true era is the 80s which explains my passion for this song. I have been belting out the lyrics to this since was three. I’ve gone from being in diapers bouncing in my hanging bouncer to throwing myself around my kitchen and dancing around my mom to singing it out the window on road trips to New Jersey to blasting it out the window of my car as I peel out of my driveway.

This song has been a gateway tune into my love for music, it’s always something different for everyone, we all have our preferences. When I was young, all I knew was mostly my dad’s music. The Who, The Beastie Boys, The Allman Brothers, people like that, however my mom loved Madonna. Who didn’t, really? I remember her going over to the stereo sitting on a shelf in a wooden cabinet next to the dining table and putting on this song.  I could not help but become obsessed with the tingly, high pitched, flirtatious beat to “Holiday.” The excitement in the synthesized beats and the sensation of invincibility always makes me smile.

It doesn’t matter where I am or what I’m doing,  I will always stop and dance if I hear this song. The electric energy as it runs from chord to chord and her voice leaps from low to high, the beat is what I love most. It is what I have loved the most since I was two months old when I was restricted in my bouncy chair hanging in the middle of the kitchen, kicking my legs out and flailing them around to the fantastic rhythm of Holiday by Madonna.
