Relief
It feels like years since you’ve seen her though it’s only been a few months. Your throat gets tighter and your tears hotter the more you remember and try to make yourself understand that that was the last time you’d ever see her.
She watches you cry and feels sad, reaching down to grasp your face in her palm and whispering softly, “you shouldn’t cry, because death isn’t as permanent as you think”. And you couldn’t imagine how such a thing could be true, but you swallow it because it allows you to feel a little bit of relief.
