Kate means pure and clear.

People make my name more complicated than it is.  They give me nicknames or assume my name is otherwise.  It is just Kate.  I understand Katherine.  Katie, come on. There is no ‘i’.  It is only Kate.

When I asked my parents what inspired them to name me Kate I thought it was going to be this magical and thought-out story.  It was not.  There is no story of how my name was my great-grandmother’s or from the Bible.  Kate came from a baby book and happened to appear on both my parents’ lists.  That is the end of that short-lived story.  Exciting, right?

My version of Kate reminds me of a crisp, white sheet that came out of the dryer.  Still, a tinge warm that gives you that safe feeling.  Or cookies that just came out of the oven sweet and heavenly taste.  I portray my name as a reliable, safe haven.  A pure, sweet girl just like honey.

I would want to say everyone perceives me as the Kate I explained, but, that is not reality.  Each person has their own meaning.  Some believe I am loud and outgoing, others think I am shy.  While another sees me as a nerdy girl that cares about her grades. it does not bother me unless someone thinks of Kate as a mean girl that makes you fear her.

There may be many different versions of my Kate.  That is okay.  For my take on Kate is all that matters to me.
