Equality
Equality is demonstrated in the world around me. Equality means to be equal. For instance, equality is demonstrated at Worthing High School with gender. We are equal, there’s an equal number of girls and boys. It wouldn’t be equal gender if it was just all girls or all boys. My mother once said “y’all are lucky because back than when I was going to school it was all girls on one campus and all boys was on another campus.” When I first experienced equality that’s when I started going to school because I was always told by my granny “back than girls and boys couldn’t be in the same classroom or on the same campus.” As I’m experiencing equality in a class with girls and boys, a girl and a boy walked up to me and said “Hey your new? Of course, I wasn’t gone ignore them, so I answered back “Yes,” being new at Zoey felt weird to me because everybody knew each other, and I was just sitting there looking around. As days flew by and I got to know people and make friends, I started learning about different things that I never knew about. My first time learning about equality was in 6th grade. The teacher made the lesson fun, so I was interested. While learning about equality I raised my hand and ask Mr. Brown “Is the world equality “he answered back “No, some parts and things in the world are equal but not everything is, some things are different.” After he finished off with the lesson we did an activity, and, in the activity, there was 3 people per team, and on my team, it was me, Meme, and Kenzie. The activity was that we had to split the money between us 3 equally. During the activity we had a bit of trouble trying to equalize the money out. We had $35 and we had to split it between the 3 of us. In my mind I’m thinking of how to split it, then I finally say, “We each get 11.67” Meme comes out of nowhere and say, “That’s wrong we split 10.50” Instead of us going back and forward Kenzie did the calculation and my answer turned out to be right. We yelled “DONE,” Mr. Brown came and checked our answer and we were right. That’s the day I understood equality and how it works. There was also one more equal thing that was realized, all of us had a chance talk, to listen to each other and tell our thoughts. Equality is everywhere around me such as, social equality. Social equality is state affairs in which all people within a specific society or isolated group have the same status in certain respects, including freedom of speech, equal access to certain social goods and services. Everyone has an equal chance to socialize and be free, no one is entitled to special privileges. For example, when me, Kenzie, and Meme did the equality activity. Nelson Mandela said, “I am influenced more than ever before by the conviction that social equality is the only basis of human happiness.” Equality is all around us you just must pay attention to what’s around you and what’s going on in the world. How do you define equality? When was the last time you identified equality? Sometimes its best to travel to experience different equalities, because in other countries or cities they have different equalities from Houston that you probably never seen or heard of. In conclusion, equality means to be equal about something. On your free time, or if you on a vacation take the time to explore and experience unique equalities.
