Everyone knows him as the man with a dream. He was the one who made people believe that there was hope for racial equality. African Americans viewed him as hero, a prophet. Caucasian Americans viewed him as a nuisance. Martin Luther King Jr, was a great African American Leader because of his ability to deliver incredible speeches and in result inspiring many people. He motivated many people to go against discrimination, segregation, and racism. Although he didn’t completely end it, he was a great part of making every one truly equal.

King was born on January 15,1929. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia. Being born there, he was open to a lot of education. It was this way he found out about slaves in other states and was determined to go against it. Life wasn’t as tenacious for him as it was for people in other states (as in slaves). Of course, he still had his adversities, but being he was still one lucky African American. King had an older sister, Willie Christine King and a younger brother, Alfred Daniel Williams King. Growing up in Atlanta, he attended Booker T. Washington High School. Yet he never formally graduated, and went to Morehouse College. From there, he graduated from Morehouse with a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology.

King wasn’t just driven by education. He had many influences, one of which was the famous Gandhi. When he visited Gandhi's birthplace in India, he was deeply moved how Gandhi was able to create equality without violence but peace. Many of his speeches were based off of the idea that He reflected, "Since being in India, I am more convinced than ever before that the method of non-violent resistance is the most potent weapon available to oppressed people in their struggle for justice and human dignity.”

King gave multiple speeches about racial equality, and the ongoing racial inequality, in several different places. However, the one speech he was best known for was his “I Have a Dream” speech. He gave this speech at the March on Washington, which was a peaceful rebellion against inequality. However, even though this was a harmless protest, he was assassinated in his hotel room on April 4, 1968. He was only 39 years old. Although he is no longer alive, his legacy will carry on forever.

Martin Luther King was a great person, and a great leader. And as I had stated, he was a revelation and a great public speaker. Without him, who knows how America’s future may have turned out. We may have been the same racist human being we had been in the past. He really changed the way people viewed not only Africans Americans, but different races in general. King was the one who brought America to take those steps to becoming who we are today. He pushed us towards a future where everyone in America would be treated equally.
