Weep MAG

By Anonymous

     We drink
As the belly of the desert heaves
Our doomed
civilization
Buried city streets
And the fallen walls of Oz
swallowed
Swept beneath
Dunes
Wind hisses
Spitting grit
Shifting
lifting
excavating
Glass
Flying in our eyes
Stings like bees
In our teeth
Settling deep in our lungs
Heavy in the air we breathe
Blind Man
Suffocating in sand
Refugees
We flee
preaching
reaching toward mirages
of gods and goddesses
A slipping sea
Believing what we see
On the bank
We stoop to drink
Choked on dust
we suck
ravenously
from a river that never makes it to the sea
In a thousand years they’ll weep
Why were they so thirsty?
