Have you ever been through a life changing experience? An experience that changed my life was my parents divorce. This event is important because it will impact the rest of my life and it is not just a small event that would not have a big impact. For a while it made me feel like I was different from everyone else but now I realize how in the end it made me a better person. If this incident didn't happen I wouldn’t be the person I am now.

My parents got divorced around five years ago when I was about eight or nine years old. Since it was quite a while ago I do not remember much about it but I vividly remember some of the details and how I felt throughout it. I remember being younger and my parents would get into arguments fairly often. When I was little I thought it was a normal thing that happened to everyone. Overtime I began to realize it was not a normal thing for most people. For a while my parents still lived together but it was not like how it used to be. After that my dad started getting hotels instead of sleeping at home. When I was younger I did not understand what was going on so I enjoyed the hotel because it had a pool and a hot tub that I could swim in, I thought this was a good thing.  Every once and a while my dad would come back home for a couple days and me and my siblings would always think it was for good but that was never the case.

Eventually our parents finally told us what was going on. I didn't understand it much because I was so young but my brother understood it. He explained to me and my sister that my dad was going to live in a different home and we wouldn't see him as much anymore. Since we were still young my dad would still come home to visit so we wouldn't always have to go to him. A big struggle with this was when Covid hit. My siblings and I were scared to go to my dads because it was an apartment.  We were afraid of how many people were there and we didn't want to get sick. Eventually once Covid became more regular we started going there. Once he got his house it seemed like a more regular thing. Now that it has been five years I don't remember much of my life without it being like this and this is just the regular for me.

This event was very impactful because it changed how my everyday life was. The main change is not living with both of my parents. I live most of the time with my mom and I see my dad every other weekend and on Tuesdays. This was a big change because I went from seeing my dad every day to not seeing him very much. Obviously throughout this whole time I realized how big of a change this was but I didn't realize how much it matured and changed me as a person until around last year. When I was in fifth grade and this all happened I felt like I was very different from everyone else just because my parents were divorced. I didnt start to feel normal about it until early on the next year when my best friend told me her parents were getting divorced. I then realized that I was not different because of it and it was actually more common than I thought it was. This event definitely changed me as a person. I am a completely different person now than I was before this event. This was a really difficult time for me but it taught me how to cope with my anxiety and taught me how to deal with emotions better. Every once and a while I will start to wish that my parents didn't get divorced but then I realize that this event changed my life for the better and overall grew me as a person.

Even through a very difficult time in your life you have to remember that there is a reason that this event is happening to you. This event could make a big impact on you and your life. If I did not go through the hard time of my parents getting divorced then I would not be the same person that I am today. Overall this event ended up changing my life and me for the better and I don't know how my life would be if my parents never got divorced.
