Fun at the Nursing Home
DearJournal 10/3/08
Tomorrow my friend and I are going to a local nursing home to volunteer. We are going from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. We go to basically give a little back to the community.
Our friend is also going to get her test so she can start in two weeks. She's the first to join our little club, which consists of going to the nursing home every other Saturday with friend's and helping out. The hardest thing to do is to get people to get the TB test done which is required by the state. The little prick and bubble is definitely worth it because we certainly have fun there.
At the nursing home, there are a lot of funny things that happen. One was when a senior asked if I was a worker's brother and forced to come. Another time a nurse was mad because her pants weren't matching the uniform for her position and was asked to leave because of it.
Helping other people make us feel better about ourselves. That's the big bonus because I enjoy helping the older people there too. I'm sure they like it when we come too. That's why I go.
