Any change in the social or political fabric of nation, always comes with positive and negative effects. Some changes may boost the economy and make certain people very rich; others may bring social justice to an unheard part of society. All throughout history we can see how innovation has led to these changes. From the Industrial Revolution to the emergence of tech hubs, advancements in technology have always led to change in one way or another, whether it changes the fabric of society itself, or lets us access a world of information in one click.
 
Let’s look at a famous example of innovation leading to urban transformation and political shifts, the British Industrial Revolution in the 1800s. This revolution began with technological advancements in multiple fields. In the cloth industry great advancements were made, and the first factory was set up to fit a new cloth weaver which produced thread at extremely high speeds. The advancement of this small step in the process of cloth making led the rest of the process being industrialized as well. Now, there were factories for different products, people who were previously living on the streets could earn money and fend for their families. As well as this, there were also advancements in  transportation, the steam engine was developed which led to invention of trains. This meant that these mass produced products could now be sold to different markets and fast. As more people were now earning money, they also had increasing purchasing power as products were cheap. Hence a new middle class emerged. This middle class had no political representation and wasn’t  allowed to vote. As this class now represented a huge chunk of the British population they vouched for major voting rights, and in the period of around 60 year the  voting percentage in the British population went from 5 % to around 75 %, women were not included in this. This shows how innovation led there being massive change in the social structure of a nation, which then led to major political changes.
 
Now lets look at a more recent example, the emergency of Tech hubs. The very computer I am typing on, the phones we use everyday are all a product of tech hubs. In the 1950s and 1960s, the development of the semiconductor and computer industries led to establishment of tech hub in areas such as Silincon Vally in California. Fast forward a few decades, in the 1980s and 90s the rise of the internet and dot com boom led to these technology hubs growing further.These hubs were fueled by the growth of internet comapines and the development of new technologies such as e-commerce and social media. Various modern inventions have come out fo these techniques hubs from the World Wide Web in the 1990s to modern touch screen smartphones in the 2000s. These technologies have made our lives easier, and have connected people around the world. Now we have access to the internet, where endless information is in the palm of our hands. We can talk to people living thousands of miles away from us without lifting a finger. These wonderful inventions have also led to great social and political change. Everything is highly connected in todays world. Information is spreading form high to low in a matter of seconds. People are much more aware of what’s happening around the world due to modern technology especially social media. But, everything isn’t perfect about this hyper-connected and digital world. There are major privacy issues regarding social media. Firstly data collection, ever wondered why you saw a post yesterday about a pair of shoes and now there are ads popping up everywhere? Social media platforms collect huge amounts of data, which includes personal information and browisng history. Government agencies have made laws regarding these issues, many countries have laws that regulate the collection and use of personal data by social media platforms. Social media companies are also required to share their privacy policies with their users. These laws are still constantly evolving according to the need of the time. Technology can be used in various other ways, which are dangerous and can have harmful effect. False information is spread everywhere on social media, and with the younger generation using it, it can be used as a tool to indoctrinated certain ideoldies into young brains.
 
All in all, all throughout history innovation has led to change, whether it be small or big no invention goes unnoticed. A scientific innovation will always have a dangerous connotation, it’s the way we as a global community embrace technology and restrict it to protect people from harm.
