Christmas in Colorado
My senses drag themselves from the comfort of sleep,
recognizing immediately the change in atmosphere
And the crisp mountain air that envelops me,
The kind masked with the smell of burning wood and fresh snow,
Which calmly beckons me to wake up.
My legs clad in plaid flannel drag themselves out from underneath the pile of six blankets.
Peaceful stillness; time seems to be irrelevant.
Escape from everyday monotonous routines;
Provides a sense of boundless elation.
Immersed and intertwined within nature-
Natural beauty and simplicity of life is blatantly undeniable.
There's a cleansing relief from the climbing toxicity of city life;
Where the only things in the sky are dozens of birds and millions of snowflakes.
Such warmth freely emenates from such icy conditions.
I speedily put on my clothes and eat, to take advantage of my setting
Which is sadly short-lived, disappearing just after the twelve days of Christmas.
But its brief refreshment lends a lingering allure to return again.
