(The stage shows a majestic throne room with KING JAMES laughing at PEASANT)
KING JAMES: (finishes laughing) Ah, lowly serf, I admire your courage, but there's no possible way to repair the village. All funds must be used to cover the castle damages from the storm. Guards, escort this man out!
(GUARD 1 and GUARD 2 take PEASANT and walk him off stage as he struggles)
PEASANT: (grunts as he fights back) Tyrant! Thief! This is how you treat your kingdom?! May you be shown what you actually rule: nothing!
(PEASANT is finally dragged away as KING JAMES sighs)
KING JAMES: If only he put that effort into his pathetic farm.
(As KING JAMES looks off into the crowd, BROTHER ANDRE appears from the side of the stage)
BROTHER ANDRE: My king, there is a crisis! The monastery is flooded! God's house is in need of help!
(KING JAMES sighs and looks at BROTHER ANDRE)
KING JAMES: Brother Andre, my castle is almost in shambles. That must be addressed first.
(BROTHER ANDRE starts sputtering and shouting even louder)
BROTHER ANDRE:Sh-shambles? SHAMBLES!? This room alone is enough to make common people quake in fear and awe! If this is your definition of "shambles," then you have much to learn, fool!
(As BROTHER ANDRE and KING JAMES fight, GUARD 1 and GUARD 2 whisper from the side of the stage)
GUARD 1: Poor man. He's never known poverty. His wealth blinds him. Why can he not see our discomfort? Our suffering?
GUARD 2: (sighs) He will see soon, but it is up to him to understand.
(Thunder crashes and the stage lights dim into darkness)
