The Lost Ones of the Land of Nowhere
Far away from here, there is a land. A land that no one has found and will never find. This land lies between Japan and America, tucked away and out of sight. You can only get there if you know what lies behind its magical bounds and wish to be there.
Let’s say you knew what was there and wished to be there. When you arrived by ship, you would find not a desolate island in the middle of nowhere, but a vast jungle land, full of creatures you had never set eyes on. When your boat pulled up, you would not be greeted by people, or animals, or anything. The only sign of humans would be a set of footprints lining the beach.
If you were to follow these footprints, you would eventually come to a girl. This girl, of about early sixteen, would have long black hair, the same as Asians. She would have crystal blue eyes, the color of the ocean surrounding this vast land. They would be wide and glistening like American’s. Her sun kissed skin would be tan, not as pale as Europeans but not as dark as Africans. She would look at you unseeing, not seeing your ship or anyone who came with you, for you would find that the people of this land cannot see those or anything from outside their home’s borders. And you would find, as she looked up to the sky so suddenly as if she had been struck, rain would start to fall, a rain like tears of many. Thunder would rumble as if someone high above and out of reach was sobbing. And lightning would strike the very ground surrounding you as the unseen would seem to be crying, “Why does no one love me?” and much to your surprise, silent tears would run down the girls cheeks, and she would cry,
“Why does no one love you,
Whoever you are,
Up so high?
I do not see you,
But feel your misery.”
And whether you were Chinese or English or French, or of any tongue, you would understand her words.
As suddenly as the rain had started it would stop, but the sun that was shinning so brightly before would still be covered and overcast, and so would the girl. Her bright eyes would be dull and the ocean, once so still, would roar, for the unseen had been troubled, and so the land had been troubled.
If you had been here you would know these things. If you had seen this girl you would know these things. And, you would know these things if you knew the right people. If only you knew the Lost.
