Chapter 1: The First Time I went to Camp The First Time I went to camp
“Are you all packed?” My mom asked. “Yes, I was a week ago, remember!” I said. “Yes, I just can’t believe my little eight year old is going off to camp for a whole week.” She began. “Mom, stop, you’re embarrassing me again. Also I’m going with Gabriella, so you don’t have to worry.” I explained. My non-existent muscles flexed as I lifted my over packed duffle bags. I watched the steering wheel spin as we got closer and closer to camp. My vision blurred as trees zoomed by but then I spotted a DQ restaurant and noted that my mom might let me get some on the way home. I suddenly snapped out of my book and realized that we were making the right turn into camp. Counselors greeted us at the turn by waving. They motioned us to roll down our window, as I heard the screeching of the window rolling I knew that my mom followed the directions. “Proceed down this road for half a mile until you get to the camp sign, also have a great time at camp!” Informed the counselor. We proceeded down the road for a while a then realized how nervous I was; I had never been away from home for this long. We went to the registry which I soon found out was the mess hall (where we eat). I learned that I’m in cabin 14 in Shawnee; Shawnee is where all the girls stay when they are doing the normal camp. We walked into cabin 14 where I imminently saw Gabriella. “Gabi, I’m so excited!” I exclaimed. I overheard the muffled sound of our parents taking. I threw all my stuff on the bunk under Gabriella’s. Soon it was time for my parents to leave. “I’m going to miss you so much, if you need anything, just write me a letter.” Advised my mom. “Don’t worry about me, I’ll be fine.” I explained. My parents left and all my nerves were washed off of me. I had some of the most fun in my life there. Swimming, doing the zip line, high ropes, archery, and horseback riding were some of the activities that I did almost everyday. This has been one of my favorite summers in my life.

I wrote this piece because I felt the need to share my expirences with the world and to also show others how a little eight year old took a little (but huge for her) step into maturaty.
