The radio mumbles in the background. Some older gentleman with a deep reporter's voice sounds through the stereo.
Men being shipped overseas to fight a war... A hurricane destroying an entire island full of people...Government leaders being accused of scandals...Another school shooting last night...
And yet you keep driving to work, because life goes on.

This piece was taken from a writing prompt in english class called "Bird Droppings". The idea behind the prompt was to write a piece of fiction using as close to 55 words as possible, somehow relating to the topic you were assigned. My topic was "radio" and my piece is exactly 55 words.
