Introduction
A small town that only about 1000 hundred people live in, Acrine is known for its wide fields and rich land. Seventy percent of the population is orson the other thirty percent is the minority which are the duisms, zakarum, and pathism. They are free to practice any religion and have always lived at peace together. Their leader is Zohar Bithell, a zakarum who has been in power for over ten years. His father Azul Bithell was in power for thirty years until his death, which then Zohar took over.
Near Acrine there are other small towns. There’s Woodlyn, Valor, Oldpine, and Pondston. Recently there is been some revolutionary springs in these towns. There are protestors in the street and some are causing destruction. Soon it might be Acrines turn. But people know it won’t happen there because 1. Their leader is not a radical like the leaders in neighboring towns and 2. Any one against the government would be taken care of. Also Acrine is a very peaceful town.

The breeze felt good. In March it’s pretty cold but it wasn’t today. Emotionless enough that you can feel the stony draft on the back of your neck. The sky was blue and it felt like a peaceful day. Little did I know, that suffering was near. My name is Willow and I’m from the south of Acrine. I am 17 years old and the eldest of my siblings. I was born here, I go to school here. I love my town and the people that live here. In this town everyone knows each other and if something happens, news spreads quickly. Today I went to my friend’s house, Seth who lives across town. I went through stone creek and then I went through the woods. I wanted to see him and talk about the game we got. On the way there, there seemed to be a small gathering in front of the school. I looked around trying to recognize someone but I didn’t. It was weird to see something like this in Acrine. I kept on walking until I was in front of his house. Seth is my friend that I met in school. We are alike in so many ways. But the one thing that makes us different is that he is orson and I am zakarum. This never bothered me and I didn’t feel like it really mattered. But I can tell you that people have told me to stop hanging out with him. I just ignore them.
I knocked on the door and waited. It was getting dark but I knew my mom wouldn’t worry because this town is pretty safe. Nothing really scary happens here or anything interesting.
Seth finally opens the door.
“Hey, it’s about time,” I said.
“Sorry about that,” Seth said in a laughing voice.
I follow him up stairs to his bedroom. It’s a small cozy room filled with all sorts of things. I cleared the papers that were on his bed and sat down waiting for him to have a seat. He starts talking.
“Did you hear what’s going on?!!” “No, what is it, tell me” “Well I’ve been hearing that there are demonstrators wanting change”
I didn’t know what to say. I heard some weird things this past month. One of things was what Seth just said. But I didn’t give it much interest. I just thought something like this wouldn’t happen here, in this town. But it did happen in towns nearby. Some had demonstrations that were peaceful and others were violent and dangerous. Many have died in the past months because off the uprising.
“What do think about this,” I said.
There was a long pause. I was afraid of what he was going to say. He knew that I supported my government and my leader. Not only because I was zakarum but also because I was raised and brought up to love my leader and my government and to be loyal to them.
Then Seth finally said something in a very quiet voice that I almost didn’t hear him. “I don’t really know. I mean, I don’t think there is anything wrong with our regime. But there’s people out there who hate it and want to overthrow the rule.”
“Why do they hate it?” I asked, very calmly.
“Well there is lots of reasons. I mean, for starters people want a new leader instead of the one we have right now. They will tell you that the Bithell family has been in power for over 40 years and they had enough of them. They want to change into a better tenancy and also want to develop their town.”
I was half listing and half thinking. I was lost in thought. Finally I stood up after what seemed like hours but really it was just seconds. I told him that I had to go because it was getting late and that my mom would be worried. The truth is I felt confused and scared. I didn’t know why I felt this way but I just did. I opened the door and stepped outside. It was cold but I didn’t mind. I needed to sometime to think so I started home. I didn’t see anyone ahead of me. I had too much on my mind. I kept walking and thinking about what Seth said and trying to take everything in. For the first time in my life I felt something that I never felt before. It felt like my world is going to turn upside down. I wasn’t wrong, this was just the begging of something bigger than me, then Seth, and Acrine itself.
********
It’s been three years since the start of the Acrine uprising. I’m 20 years old now. I still live in the same house. I haven’t moved and will never do such a thing. I will stay here until I die. Many people have suffered so much. It is truly beyond belief of what has happened to this beautiful town. The people of Acrine have endured so much pain in this past three years it is truly miserably depressing. The only thing that really makes you angry is how other towns have taken advantage of your difficult time that you are going through. The government is still in power and hopefully it will get rid of every terrorists there is in Acrine. People have been killed and stoned because of their faiths and beliefs. Many soldiers have died defending their home land and these men and women are the true heroes. Also civilians have died including men, women and children. It’s not safe to walk outside without looking around to check if there is something suspicious going on or if there is a sniper on top of the buildings. Many people have fallen because of bombings. Some suicidal and some not. These bombers have targeted schools, hospitals, banks, playgrounds and anything that is busy with people. Even though all this has happened people here are not giving in, they will fight and battle till the end. Every family in Acrine has lost or has had some one missing from their loved ones. Every person has been hurt or in pain over the past three years. Some people have moved to other towns, others have fled the country, and some are refuges in neighboring towns. The people that revolted in the begging have come back and just want peace and safety. They don’t want any more destruction and massacres. They want everything to go back to normal, just the way it was before. Hope fully this teaches the people of Acrine to love each other and respect each other’s differences.
