Flight
I hear the sound of wings fluttering all around. In my favorite clearing I lay alone, eyes closed. Listening. Waiting. For what? The Sky. The Wind. Freedom. As I lay there, eyes closed, I can almost feel them. The imaginary wings on my back. I spread the wings. Imagine the feeling. The rush of feathers. All unfolding. The weight of them on my back. The span. Brown. That’s their color. Dark Brown. Not angel white. Never angel white. I am no angel. I am a girl. A girl who takes flight on her imaginary wings. Midflight. A yell. My name. I tumble through the air. The wings are gone. I crash back into my body. Into reality. Hard. Another yell. Mom. I get up and go home. I don’t notice. I never will. The dark brown feathers scattered from where I had laid.
