Book Code
The book grew a pair of legs, got up, and walked out the door. It was as simple as that. Why did he do this? Well because it was written. The first line in the first page read: “Grow a pair of legs. Walk out the door.” The book walked to the nearest book store. He didn’t even pay attention to all the books around him. They lined the walls. Countless stories, different worlds, numerous thoughts. They all lined the wall, but the book was told to ignore them. He was told to walk to the end of the row. Written in his pages were how to do this. The complexity that even this simple task required is astounding. He read his pages without looking. They were a part of him. He turned and faced the shelf of books. How strange he would come to the only shelf where the books didn’t contain words. They were arguably the most uninteresting books in the entire building. They could hardly even be called books, they had nothing written in them yet. The book with legs gave no mind to this though. The next thing he did was grow an arm. He reached up with this new appendage and grabbed the nearest book. Walking over to a table, he found what he was looking for: a pen. The book sat down and opened the book. With extreme precision, he began writing in the book. He wrote for a long time. Scribbling with haste, he wrote and he wrote. When his arm got so tired that it would fall off, he would simply grow another. He was thankful that the writing on his pages called for the arm to fall off before it got too tired, it was so painful. Soon he had a pile of arms by his side and a book filled with words. What did the book say? Well, the first lines read: “Grow a pair of legs. Walk out the door.” He got up, grabbed his finished piece and ran back home. He ran so fast that he went through another set of legs! When he got home, he set the book down on the bed. Walking over to the fireplace, he didn’t even hesitate. The last lines of his code left no instruction for that. He jumped right in!
