The Crazy Dish
“Ow! My back aches so much! I don’t even know how someone could fall asleep on this bed made from stone.” I groan. My long brown hair was in a big mess of tangles like a poorly used mop, and my hazel colored eyes had eye bags under them from all the stressful work put on me each day. Using all my energy, I hobble downstairs to the kitchen table only to see another dreadfully long list of chores to do. I groaned, massaging my back. I have always wanted a happy, wonderful family but I never got one. Let’s start from my childhood, when I was 3, my mom and dad died in a car accident, I was then sent to an orphanage where I stayed till I was adopted at 6 years old. When I got adopted by a family, I was very excited, but now I wish that I could’ve stayed in the orphanage. For all my life, I never had any friends, I don’t know why but it’s like I have a negative energy around me and that no one wants to step near me or else they would get infected with it.
“Why do I have to do all the work while my useless step mom just lies around doing whatever she wants, can’t she hire a maid?! At least show some respect for your daughter!” I shout. I have completely forgotten that my step mom is still in the house. When I remembered, I expected her to storm downstairs and scold me. Instead, when I raise my head, I find a flower pot, thrown by my step mom, crashing right down on me! I move out of the way as fast as I can, barely missing the hit.
My mind fumes with rage; however I can’t do anything to protest. So instead, I start my chores. When noon comes, I have finally gotten through half of the list. My next chore was to wash the dishes that my two annoying, boy cousins purposely dirtied by spitting back their chewed up foods, and leaving chunks of disgusting leftover food scraps on their plates and bowls in order to make it hard for me to clean.
While washing the dishes, I am so angry that I accidentally dropped two extremely valuable plates on the floor. I started to sweep the shattered pieces as quickly as possible, while panicking like a prey that is about to be caught and eaten. Luckily, my stepmom didn’t notice or hear the loud crash from the plates, or else I will be kicked out of the house, or even worse, tortured to death by my cousins. I continue to wash the humongous mountain of dirty plates and bowls in the sink, while inspecting each one carefully and making sure that there isn’t a single scrap of food left.
Although my hands are sore and dry from all the washing, I continue washing all the dishes. However, when I tried to clean one of the bowls, there was a large mysterious dot that wouldn’t come off no matter how long I washed it. I thought I may be hallucinating from the stress of all the work I had to do. Suddenly, my hand feels like it is sinking into something. I try pulling my hand out of the half washed bowl, but it won’t come out. Soon, I feel the rest of my arm getting sucked into the bowl. My mind blanks out, and I faint.
I don’t remember what happened next, but when I wake up I find myself laying on a grassy hill with a bunch of different types and colors of flowers. The weirdest thing is that there are many funky creatures around me that look like they are from the different fairy tales and fantasy stories I’ve read. I take a glimpse around and start to explore this weird fictional world. After exploring, I find out that there are four sections, all separated by a purple colored wall.
On each wall, there is one portal that transports you to a different sections or a whole other world than this one. So it’s kind of freaky and cool at the same time. I spent forever trying to figure out how every section is like, but finally I found out that every section is a different season. The seasons change after a while, so the temperature of each place is different and changes according to what the seasons change into.
Suddenly, I remembered that I didn’t know the time! I looked around hoping to find some trace of what time it might be right now, however no matter where I search I cannot find out what time it is, so I give up. Soon, I came to a conclusion that there is no time in this world and that you won’t be able to know or tell the time.
Like a bolt lightning, I suddenly realized that I got to get back home and finish up all the chores before my step family notices, or else I will be badly tortured if not kicked out. I don’t if any of those peculiar creatures in this world speaks or understands English so I start talking to all of them and hope that some of them will be able to help me or explain to me how I can return. After trying to communicate with all the creatures, the only ones who understood me and were able to help are a faceless stick-figure boy and crazy wizard.
“Hey! Do you understand me? If yes, do you guys have any idea on how I can get out of this world and return back home?” I shout to the wizard and stick-figure.
“Muahahahaha, Muahahahaha! My, my, what a sweet little girl we have here, this stick-figure boy and I fully understand what you are saying, and we WILL help you, but only if you agree to this deal. If you do not agree, then we will isolate you and leave you to sulk here without ever being able to return. On the other hand, if you are willing to agree, we will be your best companions and help you return safely. But first of all, what is your name?” The crazy wizard squeaked.
“I agree, I agree! If you can get me out of this place safely, my name is Isabella, and I will gladly do anything for you, and any deal is fine with me!” I reply impatiently.
“Ok then, My name is Eduardo, Eddie for short, since you agree to the deal, for me to get you out of here safely you must defeat the evil, all-powerful witch that has been destroying our beautiful world for the past centuries, because she will stop you from going back, and possibly make it so that you have to stay here forever. She has been practicing black magic for decades and her powers are increasing minute by minute, so in order to defeat her, we must all team up together and design a scheme to defeat her.” The wizard explains.
“What should the plan be though? Do you know her weaknesses? Do you know what objects she can’t fight without or something?” I question.
“No, I’m not that sure about what her weakness is, but I know that we should try to sneak into her house, which is deep inside the forest, and take her spell book because without it she won’t be able to learn more magic and do spells. However, she still has her wand, so if we don’t do it correctly and get caught by her she might cast a curse on us because she memorized some of the spells.” The wizard answers
We start to discuss the plan and make corrections until we are sure that it will work. The sky begun turning dark after we finish discussing how the plan works. We decided to follow the plan and take the witch’s spell book early tomorrow morning. The stick-figure boy left to where he lives or stays for the night, and the crazy wizard invited me to sleep at his wood cabin that is in a small village. I step inside the cabin; it smells nice and feels warm and cozy like how an actual family would be. The crazy wizard cooks up some meals, and then we go to sleep. Before I fell asleep, I thought about how nice it is to have the wizard and stick figure boy here to help me. For the first time in my life, I feel that I now know how it is to have friends and supporters there for you.
Early next morning, my companions and I all meet together in front of the wizard’s wood cabin, and we started following the plan right away. The plan is like this; first we will all walk deep into the forest and look for the witch’s house together. Next, when we find it I will try to discover a hole or anything kind of opening that leads into the house, and then sneakily tiptoe inside without the witch noticing, notice the surroundings, spot the spell book and quietly take it. While I’m at that, the wizard and the stick-figure boy will be at the sides of the house and hide behind the trees. If they see the witch coming, they will warn me through our walkie-talkies. Finally, I will sneak back out of the house, and quietly sneak back out of the forest with the wizard and stick-figure man.
Everything is going perfectly and according to our plan until suddenly, when I am getting away from the house and walking towards my companions, I feel something grabbing onto the back of my shirt. Freaked out and curious, I slowly turn around to see what it is. When I turned around, my jaw dropped open. The witch is here!
“Just what are you brats up to at my house?! My, my you’re trying to steal my spell book aren’t you?! Well that’s not going to happen!” The evil witch screamed.
“No, no! It’s not like that! You misunderstood! We were just walking around in the forest, and we came down to this house. We thought it looked pretty interesting so we went closer to take a better look at it. After, we finished looking we were just planning to walk back.” I fearfully lied, while hoping that she couldn’t tell that it is a lie. Panicking, I try running away. I run as fast as I can, away from the house, but the witch catches and pulls me back.
Luckily, the crazy wizard knew some spells, and with a snap of his fingers, all three of us disappeared. When I opened my eyes again, I saw myself in a whole different place as before. I looked around however I found nothing that I have seen before. Then, I looked beside me, when I didn’t see my two close companions, I started to panic and crazily explore this totally unknown place.
