Death's Heart
Lying down, Chloe cried as she began to remember her life before the asylum. Remembering the beginning of most of her troubles, she knew they started right after her two-year wedding anniversary. When Chloe was in high school she fell deeply in love with a boy in her senior year. Logan was his name. He was sweet, and he tried to understand her problems that she faced as a child that still haunted her. They went through the school year as the most popular couple in the class, mainly because everyone got to talk about how the hottest jock was dating the class weirdo. On graduation night, Logan asked Chloe to marry him; she, of course, said yes. Since they had gotten together she had seen herself with him, dreaming of the day he would ask her to marry him.
Logan and Chloe were married that summer, and they lived happily for a few years. Then out of nowhere, the childhood ghost started watching her again. She tried to explain this to Logan, but he would not hear anything about how his beautiful bride was crazy. Chloe kept trying to get Logan to see the way even the shower looked evil and distorted. Chloe couldn’t shake the feeling that someone was watching her; she couldn’t get over the feeling that she didn’t feel right inside. She could practically feel ice running through her veins. It felt like someone had injected cold water into her veins. Getting tired of feeling like this she tried again to explain to Logan what was going on. Logan finally had enough of what he called her lies, or her cries for more attention. He called her crazy and took their one year old little boy and went away. She could barely stand to be in the house after that. Deciding finally to go live with her mom again in the house that she was raised in, she hoped that good childhood memories would help with the insane voices and images in her head. That night she looked into the mirror and saw a black figure standing behind her and staring at her with black and red eyes. His skin was black and red, with tribal designs all over it. Later that night, after her shower, she began to hear a deep beating sound in her room. That following morning she began to tell her mom what was going on, how she saw the figure, about the beating sound. Then her mother began to wonder where she went wrong raising this beautiful young lady. Her mother began to cry and sob hysterically and then made the decision that Chloe needed medical attention and medication. That day Chloe was committed into the asylum.
Chloe walked around like a zombie because of her new found, detrimental, medications. Hearing the beats, feeling the vibrations, and seeing the ripples run through the air as each beat knocked her back a few more steps until she would fall on to the ground. Remembering how after a few months in the asylum she realized that it was her heart that was beating, and it was time to get that piece insanity out of her body and finally give her some peace of mind. Chloe remembered how it was to be normal, how it felt to be held by her husband without feeling flames running through her, and how it felt to give birth to their baby boy. The feeling she missed the most was holding little Aaron James. Chloe longed for her family to be together again. She quit reminiscing as she began to claw her chest out; she moved to find something to help her get the insanity out of her body quicker. She found the picture of her little boy and broke the glass and cut her chest open. Pulling out her heart she began to cry harder. Then just seconds before death she noticed that the heart was black and stony. Because Chloe and Logan were still married, the asylum called him and asked him to come make a positive identification, and plan a funeral. Shortly following the phone call Logan go dressed and took Aaron to his mom’s and went to deal with the asylum. They took him into the room, he stopped as he seen a black stone in her hand. He looked once, and saw it, looked again and it was gone. Then he saw her chest and that she had no heart, he made the connection as he relived those last few months with her and began to feel guilty. Chloe wasn’t crazy. Turning to see what the whispers were, he heard them again. Whispers chanted around him, “Now you have death’s heart, let’s see how long you make it. Taunt Chloe and make her feel crazy, let’s see how long you last being ‘ crazy’ lets see if you can make it in her shoes.” Logan realized three things at that point, first, she held the heart of the dark angel death, second, he now had that heart within him, and last, he needed to commit himself into this asylum.
