“His father killed him when he was 12. He said he was a disgrace to the family. He cut him six times on each arm and hung him from the tree outside. The story said that if you chant his name 12 times in front of the nearest tree to your house, you would see him hanging there. After you chant his name and see him hanging there, he will be in your room that night, cut you 12 times then drag you back to the tree and hang you just like his father did to him.” Her friend said.

“That’s just a legend.” She said hoping her friend didn’t notice the terror in her voice. She did.

“If it’s just a legend why don’t you do it then?” Her friend laughed.

“Fine. I will. Tonight when it gets darker, I will do it and I will prove to you it’s just a legend.”

“We will see.” Later that night her friends had gone and she was ready to go to the tree and prove to her friends it was just an urban legend. She went to her front yard and chanted his name in front of the old oak tree.

“Milo, Milo, Milo….” She continued to chant his name 9 more times with her eyes closed. Reluctantly she opened her eyes and there was nothing. She started to spin around to see if anyone or anything was there, but she saw nothing. She decided to spin around one more time and then saw him hanging there. Terrified, she screamed and ran back inside, when she got through the door she ran straight into her dads chest.

“What’s wrong Ashley?” He asked. “Are you okay?”

She pointed at the door, tears building in her eyes. Her dad opened the door, but saw nothing. He was gone. There was nothing but the oak in the yard. Maybe I was imagining it she thought to herself as the wiped the tears from her eyes so she decided to just go to bed since she had a long day ahead of her. She climbed into her bed and pulled her blankets up to her chin and slowly fell asleep.

That night her dad woke up to loud scream and ran to check on his daughter. He crashed through her door, but she wasn’t there. He ran to his front door and threw it open. He saw a black figure lift his daughter into a noose that was hanging from a branch on the old oak tree. He ran over to her as the figure disappeared. He saw six identical cuts going up each of her arms. He grabbed a hold of her body and took off of her neck. Carrying her, he ran inside to call the police, and a few minutes later they were on the scene. When they got there the rope was gone. They never found the man that tried to hang the girl.

As the story is told over the years and people try to prove it wrong, he was the only on ever to save his daughter.

I wrote this urban legend as a class assignment and really liked it.
