Around a decade ago a man named Adam was a drunk and a careless man. He was 27 at the time and he was unemployed, he resided in The Bronx, New York City. It had been dark and cloudy all day like it wanted to rain then Adam’s wife Christina arrived at the front door with their kids Jaime and Dwayne, Christina had just picked them up from their elementary school, and she got the keys from her purse and tries to find the right key, she eventually finds the key and she starts to unlock the door and walks in. Christina walked into the house and saw Adam lying in the kitchen with what appeared to be blood on the floor, as she ran to him she came to realize that the “blood” was just fruit punch that he used as a chaser, Christina went to him while Jaime and Dwayne were at the front door staring at his father passed out on the floor. In shock Christina went to Adam to check on him, she sighed in relief when she felt his pulse but as soon as she knew he was okay she started shaking him like a gorilla violently to wake him up. Adam opened his eyes, and Christina proceeded to yell at him with animosity and berated him with insults.

calls out to Jaime and Dwyane.

“Jaime…Dwyane, you guys want to go throw around the baseball for a bit, it’s nice out”

There is no response, Adam calls them again

“ C'mon guys don't be like that let's go to the park, I'll even buy you guys something to eat on the way home”

Adam in the middle of eating sets down his sandwich, perplexed that they had not responded, he walks down the hallway, and peaks into Dwayne's room he’s not there, Adam then assumes he is in Jaime's room but they aren’t there. Adam then proceeds to walk outside to see if the van is there and to his surprise the van wasn’t there. Adam then proceeds to walk inside to grab his phone to call Christina, the phone rings four times before she answers, Adam says.

“Hello? Christina, where are you?”

Christian then says.

“ I told you I was going to leave if you didn't straighten up your act I was going to take the kids and the van”

Adam responds in a calm tone

“ I understand, I need to get sober I’ll call you in a week for you to come back”

Christina responds.

“I’ll come home Monday next week and if I find you passed out on the couch I'm just going to leave and never come back”

Christina then hangs up the phone. Adam then proceeds to walk and grab a trash bag to throw out all the liquor he has, first the Jim Beam, then the Titos, and the rest of the cheap liquor he had. The next day he went to an AA meeting, he introduced himself to everybody and told his story and he felt like someone was listening to him for the first time. After the meeting had ended he went home and had the urge to grab a drink but as he was going to leave for the liquor store he saw the photo of him his wife Christina and his two boys Dwyane and Jaime he looked at that photo for what seemed like for eternity but in reality, he just stared at the photo for about ten minutes as he set the photo down he went to the couch and grabbed the remote to turn on the Mets game they were playing the Texas Rangers and then the Mets struck a homerun “CRACK”, after the game he got up from the couch and started cleaning his house after that he went to bed but he had trouble falling asleep because he couldn’t stop thinking about his wife and his kids but he was also thinking about getting drunk but he realized it was either his family or the drink and at that moment he concluded that his family is more critical than some cheap scotch. A week had passed by but for Adam, it had felt like months the moment had finally come when it was time to face his wife Christina, and his two boys Dwyane and Jaime as a changed man, when they arrived in the driveway Adam quickly got the flowers he had bought for Christina and stood at the front door waiting for them to walk in, Christina found the key to the door immediately and as they opened the door Adams heart started pounding in nervousness. As Christina walked in the door she looked at Adam and Adam looked at her all he could do was smile he began to tear up when he saw Dwayne and Jaime, Adam then walked up to his family and embraced them with the heart of a new man.
