It was a cool summer night in 2086. Nicole, Rob, Clara, and Manuel decided to go to Insanenation, an amusement park. They’ve been dying to go because of the new ride, The phantom, that came out.

“I can’t wait to get on that new ride!” said Manuel. “I know right?!” said Clara excitedly. “Well, I’m starting to become much more nervous because this is a brand-new ride, and we don’t know if it’ll break down.” said Nicole anxiously. Rob came up to her and rested his arm on Nicole’s head and said, “Don’t worry Nikky, they’ve had people test this rollercoaster and stuff, so we’ll be fine.” “I guess…” Nicole said hesitantly.

The group walked around the amusement park and got on all of the rides. They said they wanted to get on the best ride last. They got to the line of the rollercoaster and noticed it was a huge line to get on. They stood in line for an hour before Rob started to get bored. He started joking around with Manuel and had the best idea; to throw rocks at the rollercoaster. Manuel started cackling and Clara started giggling, but Nicole began to become even more nervous. “Stop it!” she yelled. “Something bad can happen!” she yelled once again.

The group started laughing even more. “Stop being a chicken, Nikky.” Rob said. “Yeah girl, stop being so dramatic,” said Clara. “Let loose a bit.” Manuel stated. As the group was teasing Nicole, they didn’t notice that the rocks that Rob threw made the trail for the rollercoaster become loose.

“I think we should just go on the Ferris wheel again.” Nicole suggested. “No way! That’s the antithesis of The Phantom!” Manuel yelled. “Nuh-uh, it’s still scary, just a bit more benign than the rollercoaster.” Nicole replied. “Ugh! You’re such a capricious person Nikky.” stated Clara while rolling her eyes. “Exactly, weren’t you super excited about this ride?” asked Rob. “Yeah, before I found out how dangerous it is to get on a ride that was just created!” Nicole snapped with a hiss. “Geez, okay, okay” replied Rob. “If you’re so scared of the ride, then why don’t you just leave the line?” said Clara. “Fine! I will!” Nicole yelled. She left the line and started walking around Insanenation. Meanwhile, the group was giggling at how hot-headed Nicole is.

After another hour of waiting, the group was finally next in line to get on Insanenation’s newest ride, The Phantom. Rob, Manuel, and Clara were extremely excited, so they started cheering while others are getting on. Nicole was watching her friends anxiously on the sidelines. The ride started and the cart began to ascend more and more. ‘Clickety-clackety, clickety-clackety’ As they got to the top everyone had huge grins on their faces. They dropped and everyone started screaming with joy. Once they got to another drop, part of the track broke off but nobody noticed. The cart finally descended, but the people finally noticed that part of the track was missing. They went through the missing track and fell. They all started screaming with fear. Rob noticed that he couldn’t hear Manuel or Clara. He turned back and saw the headless bodies of his best friends with blood spewing all over their cart. Rob began to cry while the others in the back started to fall out and splat onto the ground. Nicole was close to the ride and saw everything happen. She began to cry and saw Rob fall on top of a wooden flagpole which pierced him in the chest. ‘Gasp gasp gasp’ Rob was gagging and gasping for air while Nicole saw blood spurting out everywhere like a fountain.

A few hours after the incident, Nicole got home. Her parents tried to comfort her, but she said she wanted to be alone. They agreed with her decision. Nicole slowly walked to her room with her head down low. Her parents had worry plastered all over their faces. Nicole got into her room and locked her door. Her parents yelled, “Honey! We’re going to go buy you some treats to make you feel better!” “Okay…” Nicole said with a sad voice. She heard the door shut, the car started and drove away.

She sat down on her bed, rested her elbows on her thighs and her head in her hands. She sighed and started to chuckle. That chuckle turned into a giggle and soon enough, she started to laugh hysterically. She was laughing because she was the one who loosened part of the track in order to make sure her “friends” fell. She laid down on her bed with joy in her eyes. “Finally! They’re gone!” she screamed. “I finally did it! I killed them!” Nicole yelled as she kicked her feet playfully while hugging a pillow. “They treated me like a lackey, and I was sick and tired of it.” she stated. “Everything is okay now though, because they’re finally dead so they can’t treat me like that anymore!” Once again, she began to laugh so much that her stomach started to hurt. She got up and did her nightly routine. She turned the lights off and got into her soft and cozy bed. Nicole whispered, “Now that was a rollercoaster of emotions.” That night, Nicole went to bed knowing that nobody was going to suspect her as the cause of the incident.

This was the first project for my English class and our teacher encouraged us to submit our stories. I hope that the readers will enjoy this short story as much as I do, and be inspired to write as much as they want as creatively as they want.
