My name is Hunter, and I am a newborn vampire. I have a special gift that no other vampire has. I can look into the minds of humans and sift through them at my leisure. I have no idea who my creator is and I don’t care. All I care about is blood. I live for it because it ensures my survival. I live in an old home that is rumored to be haunted because of me. I love living here because my food comes to me. It comes in the form of brave children. The blood of children is the richest and sweetest. Only one child that has ever entered this house has lived to tell the tale and he has. He is the only human that has ever thwarted my plans to satisfy my thirst.

It was a dark, stormy night. I heard the clock tower ring. It must have been midnight. Then, I heard the door creak open and thought it was just the wind, but then I heard footsteps. I looked into the minds of the intruders and found their name. Their names were Jessica, the leader, Ryan, the athlete, Justin, the redneck, and Shania, the vain one. Then I heard voices. “Alright does everyone remember the plan?” I guessed it was Jessica speaking. “We spend the night and then leave for school in the morning, yeah, yeah....” said Ryan. I figured this would be fun. Let playtime begin!

I noticed that they all stood in the doorway for a while and I considered slaughtering them all at once, but decide to play with my food. I waited and noticed Jessica went to my room. I heard a scream and remembered that I didn’t clean up from my previous meals. I found her and made my move. She was easy to pick off. It’s funny how unintelligent some humans could be when their lives are at stake. Jessica just stood there, letting out a blood-curdling scream, almost waiting for her death. But, her blood was the most amazing blood I’ve had in my eternal existence. Humans might compare it to the best-aged wine. I can’t describe how delicious her blood was. Even, the color was like my own personal addiction. Her blood was a rich, deep scarlet. I could tell that their would be no blood on Earth that could come close to the taste. It was disappointing that she didn’t last long enough. When I was done with her the burning thirst was not satiated.

I found Ryan and eliminated him with ease. I could taste the dirt from a baseball diamond in his blood. I guess it’s true when they say that baseball is in your blood. He tasted the worst. That was the closest I’ve ever been to wasting blood!

Shania would be my next victim. Her scent was intoxicating. I could not wait to taste her blood. When, I found her I was disappointed with the taste. It was very average. I couldn’t believe I was still thirsty! Usually, two would be enough to allow me savor, but this thirst just burned like a flame in my throat that was stubborn and refused to be put out. That is one of the curses of this immortal existence. The thirst never stops it just dulls to the point where it is easy to ignore for a while. This thirst just refused to be satisfied.

I found Justin at the kitchen looking for food. He saw me and pulled out a pistol. He ran and fired at me, heading for the door. I was so shocked at the fact that he had a gun. I was very angry! He was sprinting for the door. I leaped and landed right in between him and the doorway. I looked him right in the eyes. And then, for the first time, I spoke. “You dare to bring a gun in my house! You will pay!” I noticed my voice had a nice little touch of a malevolent ring to it.

When he heard my voice he stopped and turned. I looked him straight in the eyes and I saw the tears streaming down his cheeks like a river. He must have seen the blood of my previous victims on my lips because he then said, “What did you do to them? Where are they? Please, if you a heart you’ll tell me. Where are they?”

His pleas amused me. “I do have a heart but that doesn’t mean I have to tell you where they are. Technically, I do have a heart; but the blood no longer flows in my body that it used to pump. Even if I did tell you where they are it would be no use to you. Either they survived and my venom is spreading through their veins and changing them into what I am, or they have already perished. I think Jessica will survive, I think I accidentally let too much venom out through my fangs.”

He looked at me with he fury only an immortal can possess and said,” You’re a monster! How can you kill innocent children? What pleasure do you get out of murdering the defenseless and weak? Huh? ANSWER ME!” The tears were flowing like a waterfall!

The pleasure I get is the amusement of how easy it is to lure the curious. I guess it’s true that curiosity killed the cat. This angered him very much because then he let out all of his pent up fury and fired the gun straight at my heart, stunning me just long enough for him to realize that I was going to kill him for that if I caught him. He then ran full force toward me and barreled over me heading for the door and he ran outside. I pursued, naturally, but right before I could snatch him around the neck, the sun came out. I growled and screamed in anger that would’ve frightened the light hearted to death in an instant. Justin then turned around and I saw a hint of a smirk on his face. He laughed, then turned around and left.

That is how I was escaped. Justin caused me much suffering. I had to move and find food elsewhere thanks to him, because I gave him all the evidence he needed to make the town believe in vampires. He is my mortal enemy. I will make sure he gets a very painful death. These were just a few of the deaths on Dead End Lane.

Hunter's "Vampire" story indicates to me that the young man certainly has quite an imagination. He appears to be very talented and quite blessed with an outstanding and descript vocabulary. He is definitely on the right path to an outstanding education and career. I would be proud to be his parent and commend him for his work. Keep it up!
