I once had a thousand desires but in my one desire to know you, all else melted away - Jalal ad-Din Rumi 💘

"Can?"
"Hmm?"
"What do they mean?" the girl asks, her chocolate eyes twinkling.
"What?" he says in reply. She points skywards, "Them."
He turns his head upwards and is greeted by nothing and everything. The night sky and stars. "The stars, you mean?""Yes," the girl smiles. "Tell me."
So he furrows his brow and thinks. "They mean- ," Stumbles. Then begins again. "The stars, they mean nothing and then, suddenly everything. The stars mean light and hope and the sheer vastness of the universe. They mean bedtime stories and myths."
He takes her hand and guides it skywards, "You see that?" he says, pointing towards a constellation. "That's Artemis's lover. Orion. She placed him up there. Among the stars. So, they mean love too, and sorrow."
The girl, her smile now brighter than even the brightest star in the sky, leans her head on his shoulder. Says, "What else?" What else do they mean?"
He doesn't have to think anymore. The words keep on coming. "To the believers they mean a miracle of God. To the non believers, balls of fire and explosions and endlessness. To the Greeks they were people, loved, punished. All kinds. To many, they mean God."
"You see that star over there?" he asks, suddenly pointing to a lone one. "Yes," she replies, "but barely." It flickers in and out of sight. "That star represents that one person or even all those people in your life, who- whether you see them or not- are always there. Always constant."

She looks up at him. And suddenly it's deja vù. Because, again, it's like he is greeted with nothing and then, everything. The girl whispers, "And you, what do they mean to you, Can?"
He laughs and points towards himself, "To me?" "Yes, to you!" Hesitates. "Well, to me, the stars mean the feeling of falling. Into a deep, endless hole. A hole that I can't get out of, try as I might. They mean smiles that are brighter than even them. They mean late nights and talking and hammocks. They mean starting to open yourself up to someone after a million, hundred years. They mean a chocolate-eyed girl. A girl called Sanem. They mean love, to me too."
He stops, breathing hard, expecting a reply. Silence.
Looks down. Sees closed eyes and soft breathing. Peace.
Smiles, then shakes his head, "If I could I'd give you the sun, deli kız. People often forget it is the biggest, brightest star in the universe. And anyway, it would match your smile."

OK. So, this is a piece I've already written for this account I have on Instagram, @carmineandbeeswax. It's based off off a scene in this Turkish show I watch, where the main guy (Can) and girl (Sanem) hide out in a hammock and just talk. Enjoy x
