College Essay

I always wanted to be a veterinarian since I was in kindergarten, but when I was in seventh grade, twelve or more years of school seemed so overwhelming to me.

I started to think maybe  I wasn’t gonna be able to accomplish that. Maybe I just hit a bit of a speed bump or a moment of uncertainty, or maybe I was realizing some of my own limitations,  or just self doubt? I am not exactly sure what brought me to that realm of thought, maybe I was just plain tired that day or week? I have heard that sometimes I just have to grow into things and that for, college was much easier than high school was, that as you age and develop, and  learn more about yourself, school and learning comes easier because you have more of a foundation, more blocks to build on.

So then I was in guidance doing all the career cruising tests online and I was seeing pharmacists a lot. I’m very interested in the sciences so I thought it might be interesting. Now that I’m a junior I just got a job at Walgreens for a pharmacy technician apprenticeship job which I will be starting today after school October 12th. I also have a second job at Sendiks where I just hit working there for a year. I was thinking about how working in a pharmacy might be boring, especially for a long period of my life. So maybe I will do this for a little bit, give it a chance and see if it becomes more interesting after my training is over.  Then I can always save some money, and find something I am way more passionate about. Yes, my teacher thinks I should focus on finding new options in all that I do because I am so young and have time to figure out my career.

Isn’t that what we are supposed to be doing though? Getting ourselves going on a career, any career for starters, gets us on a solid, positive path, with a decent earning potential because things sure aren’t getting less expensive or easier, that's for sure.

I really love animals more than people so I might be interested in something like a vet technician because I am unsure  if I can commit to that much schooling to become a veterinarian. It just seems like I would pay all this money for school just to not pass. I guess I could also take the Vet Tech program so I can start working in the field and then continue on to more schooling while I work. There are So many different schooling options these days that could make it possible for me to finish.

I will take it 1 day at a time, hope for the best, do my best each day and go from there. Nothing is set in stone so I will continue to explore my options whenever possible in my career endeavors.
