Unrivals MAG
Hard times fall fast.
When you're young, you bounce,
no cracks, no wrinkles,
none yet.
When you're alone,
the shatter of your
hard bones against
sharp disappointment,
snakes its way in
burning a hole
from stomach to sternum.
I was not alone
I was young, unfazed.
She watched out for me,
a sibling's care,
bubble wrap, sandwiched
around me.
She made felt into velvet
knee-sized carpet burns into
proud badges of childhood.
My sister watched me grow,
baby, infant, child, teen.
And here I watch her go.
College, study abroad,
months without sight.
and I miss her still.
