Bound To You
I had just recently moved from Italy to this small town in Minnesota called Fairhaven. Today was my first day of senior year and I was really nervous. I was going to a new school and I would be making new friends.
After I finished my shower, I stood in front of my closet, trying to decide on my first-day-of-school outfit. I chose to wear high-waisted jeans with my tan timberland heeled boots and a crop sweater. My waist-length hair was put up in to a fishtail halo braid and I finished off my look with some lip gloss. Checking myself in the mirror, I thought to myself, perfect.
As I walk downstairs, I smell the sweet aroma of freshly made chocolate chip pancakes and crispy bacon. My favorite.
"Mmm, smells good ma," I said, walking into the kitchen. My mother turns to me and smiles.
"Good morning, mija," she said. People say my mother and I looked more like sisters than mother and daughter.
After I finished eating, I put my plate in the sink and grabbed my car keys.
"Bye mom, see you later," I said and waved.
"Bye mija, be good," my mom yelled.
"I'll try," I yell back, as I walked to my blue mini wagon. Suddenly, I felt like someone was watching me. I turned around and looked into the woods. I didn't see anyone among the trees.
You're just imagining things, I tell myself. I turn back around to get in my car and made my way to school, not thinking much of the could-be fateful encounter.

When I woke up today, I felt different. My wolf did as well. Yes, I am a werewolf, the alpha of the Silver Bane pack to be exact. We were the largest and most powerful pack in the US.
I was declared as one of the strongest alphas in history, but at the age of 21, I still hadn’t found my mate. Because I still had the appearance of an eighteen-year-old, I could go to high school. But I was a senior, and this was my last year, and I was still searching for my mate in the school.
I was the oldest of five siblings. There was Jack, who was 18, Mark, who was 17, Macy, who was 12, and Leah, who was 10. We lived with our father, James, and our mother, Laurel. Our house was always rowdy with all the people living in it. We lived in a small community that consisted mostly of werewolves but with a few humans, but we hadn’t had any new humans moving here in over eight years.
Going to my drawers, I chose to wear my black long-sleeved shirt with dark jeans and my black biker boots. I went downstairs to see my family already eating. My best friend and beta, Jake, was also there talking to my father. When he and his companion saw me, they bowed their heads and greeted me with an “alpha”.
“Hello guys,” I said as I sat down and got myself a bowl of honey nut cheerios and listened to their conversation. I overheard that there was a new human family that just moved in. That was probably why I felt weird the morning. Once I finished my breakfast, I headed out.
“Bye guys, I”m going to school now. See you later,” I call out to them.
“Bye,” my family yelled back.
I walked to my Harley Davidson motorcycle. She was my most prized possession. I got on and made my way to school.

When I got out of my car in the parking lot, I noticed that people were staring at me. The whole time I walked to the building, I felt very self-conscious of the stars and murmurs, but it all stopped once we hear the sound of a motorcycle coming into the parking lot. Since I was in a hurry, I didn’t look back to see who it was.
On my way to the main office, I gawked at the size of the school. It was pretty big for a small town. In the office, I met a pretty, red-headed, secretary.
“Hello,” I said, and she looked up at me and smiled.
“Hi darling, how may I help you?” she asked.
“My name is Katherina Knight. I’m new here,” I told her.
“Nice to meet you honey. My name is Charlotte and here’s your schedule. If you have any questions or issues, don’t hesitate to ask me, okay?”
“Okay. It was nice meeting you, Charlotte.” I grabbed my schedule and walked out of the office. Just as I was opening the door to leave, I crashed into someone and dropped my purse and schedule.
“I’m so sorry, I wasn’t watching where I was going!” I cried out to the person I bumped into.
“No, it was my fault. I shouldn’t have been on my phone,” said a guy’s voice. I looked up to see a boy around my age with caramel colored hair and grey eye. “Hi, I’m Jake and you are…?”
“I’m Katherina and I just moved here,” I tell him and he grinned.
“Well then, welcome to Fairhaven. Starting from now, I’m your new best friend,” Jake said, smiling like Cheshire cat. I laughed.
“Oh really now?” I said, smiling back.
“Yup, so give me your schedule,” he said while picking up my schedule off of the floor and handing me my purse. “It looks like we have first and lunch together. Come on bestie, let’s head to class,” Jake said teasingly and starts pulling me by the hand towards the stairs.
“Haha, okay okay, I’m coming! Slow down, will ya?” I said while running to keep up with him. “And call me Kat because all my friends do.”
“Okay, come on slow poke Kat,” he joked.
When we entered the classroom, it suddenly got quiet. I turned to Jake to ask him what was going on, but he had a funny expression on his face, as if he were talking to somebody. I shake him and ask, “Hey Jakey, what’s wrong?”
“Nothing, it’s just that we haven’t had a new student in a while. And a pretty one at that,” Jake said while laughing.
“Har har, you’re a real Kevin Hart, Jake,” I responded jokingly.
At that moment, a teacher walked into the room and said, “Everybody, including you Jake, take a seat,” then he turned to me, “and you must be the new student. Please come up here and introduce yourself.”
“Okay, sir,” I reply and head towards the front. “Hi everyone, my name is Katherina Knight and I just moved here from California with my mom.” I looked at the teacher and he nodded in approval.
“Okay Katherina, your seat will be next to Dmitri’s in the back,” he told me, so I made my way towards the only empty seat in the room.
“Hi, my name is Dmitri,” a sweet voice as smooth as chocolate said. I turned to him and in that instant, I felt like time stopped and the world stopped moving. In that moment, it was like we were in our own little world for an infinite amount of time in a space that was just meant for us. Looking into his hazel eyes, they drew me into an unknown universe that seemed to lead me into a paradise of infinite happiness, but I snapped out of it when I realized that I still hadn’t responded.
“Hi, I’m Katherina, but you can call me Kat,” I said smiling at him

As I entered the parking lot, the most wonderful scent in my whole life drifted past my nose. It was a mixture of cherry blossoms and lavender and at that moment, my wolf screamed mate. I looked around, but I couldn’t see anyone new. Then, just as suddenly as it came, the vanished.
I linked Jake. “Hey, I think I found my mate,” I told him.
“What? Man, that’s great! What’s her name? When can I meet her?” he asked me.
“Whoa Jake, calm down first. I don’t know her name, I just caught her scent. I didn’t actually see her.”
“Whoa man. Well, I gotta go. I’m showing the new girl to class, so see you there.”
“Sure man, I’ll see you in a few.”
Making my way to class, I could smell her scent lingering around the hallways. After grabbing my books from my locker, I went to first hour.
I could see that I came to class early, which was unusual. I usually hung around my pack in the mornings, but for some reason, my wolf was telling me to go ahead. After five minutes, people start streaming into the classroom, but I still don’t see Jake.
I was starting to worry when Jake came in with this girl I had never seen before. The moment she stepped into the room, I smelled the same delicious scent from before. I let out a quiet, low growl when I saws that they were holding hands.
“Mine,” I said, and the whole class got quiet. When Jake looked at me, I mind linked him.
“Jake, that’s my mate.” I told him.
“Really? I didn’t know! Don’t worry, I love her like a sister. Plus, she’s my new best friend,” he replied back.
I was going to say something else when my mate whispered to Jake, “hey Jakey, what’s wrong?” Her voice sounded like thousands of rose petals flying in the wind. It was soft and beautiful, blowing me away. It also reminded me of the summer wind chimes that rang with the summer breeze in perfect harmony. The kind of music that enchanted your soul and made you feel like time stopped, made you feel like you were the only person in the world.
“Nothing, it’s just that we haven’t had a new student in a while. And a pretty one at that,” Jake told my mate, laughing. He couldn’t see my murderous expression.
“Har har, you’re a real Kevin Hart, Jake,” my mate teased back. God, I wish she could turn her face this way or at least say her name, I thought to myself.
Suddenly, the teacher walked into class and said, “everybody, including you Jake, take a seat,” then he looks at the new girl. “and you must be the new student. Please come up here and introduce yourself.”
“Okay, sir,” she replied and went to stand in front of the teachers desk. “Hi everyone, my name is Katherina Knight and I just moved here from California with my mom.”
“Okay Katherina, your seat will be next to Dmitri’s in the back,” he told her.
She started to make her way towards me and the closer she got, the more I could feel my wolf wanting to take over. She sat down and I turned towards her.
“Hi, my name is Dmitri,” I said. I watch her turn to look at me and in that instant, I felt like time stopped and the world stopped moving. In that moment, it was like we were in our own little world for an infinite amount of time in a space that was just meant for us. Looking into her honey colored eyes, they drew me into an unknown universe that seemed to lead me into a paradise of infinite happiness, but I snapped out of it when she replied.
“Hi, I’m Katherina, but you can call me Kat,” she said, smiling at me.

During the whole class, Dmitri kept staring at me, which made it hard to concentrate on what the AP Government & Politics teacher was saying. It also made me uncomfortable because of my past and how friendly Jake was.
The old me wouldn’t have had a second thought about this, but now I knew that nothing came free in life. That had been my motto since I learned that you couldn’t trust anyone, not even your own blood, because power can twist anyone into monsters.
Ever since I was a little girl, my dad would make me take karate classes, judo, kendo, mixed martial arts, and jujitsu. He even made me learn things like shooting, archery, and knife throwing. Whenever I asked my dad why he made me take those classes, he told me it was father-daughter bonding. Being the innocent and ignorant child I was, I followed him like a lost puppy and mastered all those activities even though I had guards who would protect me.
Due to the fact that my father was a very wealthy business man, I thought it was normal to be targeted by dangerous people. I know now that it wasn’t normal.
The sound of the bell brought me out of my daydream of the past. I reminded myself to stop thinking about it, that I had a new life away from all that blood, pain, and evil. I shook my head out of the clouds, grabbed my stuff and headed to the door.
Suddenly, someone grabbed my hand and I tensed, ready to throw them over my shoulder when I see that it’s just Dmitri and Jake.
“Hey guys, what’s up?” I ask.
“You and Dmitri have the exact same schedules so we, I mean I, thought that you guys could walk to class together,” Jake said while smirking at Dmitri, who was blushing so hard that he looked like a cute little tomato. I laughed.
“Sure, why not?” I teased Dmitri. “Come on, we’re going to be late for class.” I grabbed Dmitri’s hand and he led me to our IB English class. Entering the classroom, I was greeted by the teacher, Mrs. Kronzer. She was pretty cool for a teacher. After the introductions, she started to hand out the books we were going to read during the school year.
We were going to read The Great Gatsby, A Street Car Named Desire, and Hamlet. I was actually pretty excited about the books we got. I loved reading and they were my favorites. I could see Dmitri smirking from the corner of my eye.
“Well, it looks like somebody’s really excited about this,” he said, pointing to the books on my desk. I laughed at that.
“Duh! I’m a big nerd,” I said. Dmitri chuckled back. God, his laugh is so beautiful. He’s beautiful… I thought, but I quickly scold myself, stopping that line of thought. I couldn’t like him. It would ruin all of my plans. With that last fleeting thought, class began.

I couldn’t keep my eyes off of her. She was just so perfect. I couldn't believe that we had the same classes together. I watched her for the whole hour until the bell snapped me out of my daze.
I want to stare at her for the rest of my life, my wolf told me. He purred when we both agreed to nickname our gorgeous mate ‘kitten’. I saw Kat grab her stuff and head towards the door when Jake grabbed her hand. I had to hold in a growl. My kitten tensed up when Jake touched her, then relaxed. Weird, I thought to myself.
“Hey guys, what’s up?” she asked.
“You and Dmitri have the exact same schedules so we, I mean I, thought that you guys could walk to class together,” Jake said, smirking at me. I couldn’t believe that I blushed at that, the heat creeping up my cheeks. My kitten laughed. Man, her laugh was so breathtaking that I wanted to keep hearing her laughing next to me.
“Sure, why not?” she teased. “Come on, we’re going to be late for class.” She grabbed my hand and I could feel the tingles from her touch and between my legs. God, I want our mate so f***ing bad, my wolf growled in my head.
I lead her to our next class: IB English. Upon entering the classroom, we were greeted by our teacher, Mrs. Kronzer. I was happy to have her as a teacher again this year. After making introductions, she started to hand out the books we were going to read this year: The Great Gatsby, A Streetcar Named Desire, and Hamlet. I was cool with the books we got. I liked reading, but I never had any time anymore with my alpha duties and boxing matches. I suddenly remember that I couldn’t see my mate tomorrow since I had a boxing match tonight. S*** I can't believe I forgot all about that stupid fight. I could see my little kitten practically bouncing in excitement from the corner of my eye.
“Well, it looks like somebody’s really excited about this,” I smiled. She started laughing.
“Duh! I’m a big nerd,” she replied. I chuckled at that. She was beyond what I expected in a mate, but in an interesting way. I couldn’t wait to learn everything about her, but I didn’t think of how dangerous that information could be, or how entwined our lives would be.

I was making my way to lunch when I heard my phone beep. I looked to see a text from my mom.
‘Hey sweetie, I’m going to be home late. I left some money on the counter for dinner.’
‘Alright, thanks mom and be careful ti querio.’
‘I love you too, mija.’
Putting my phone back into my pocket, I stepped in the lunch line. As I grabbed a tray, I suddenly got the same feeling that I felt this morning. I looked around, but once again, I didn’t see anyone strange. I started feeling angry and frustrated. I put back the tray and decided to eat out instead of eating cafeteria food. Subways sounds good, I thought to myself.
The moment I sat down in my car, I heard my phone start ringing in my purse. I dug around my bag for my phones, thinking, damn it, where the hell is it? After about a trillion years, I found it. The name flashing at the top of the screen nearly stopped my heart.
Why are you calling me? I could barely breathe. Trying to calm myself, I answered it.
“Hello, father.”
“Well, it seems like you haven’t forgotten me yet,” he chuckled from the other end. I grinded my teeth together.
“Of course not, father. How could I ever forget someone like you?” I said, making no attempt to disguise my sarcasm. “What do you want? I know you aren’t calling to see how I’m doing.” He laughed. God, he is such an ass, I thought to myself.
“You are most certainly my daughter.” I could hear his smile through the phone. With a sigh, I listened.
On my way home, I called my people to prepare my private jet. In my room, I changed into my disguise, thinking about that horrible day when I made a deal with the devil (my father). In my closet, I opened the secret compartment on the floor that I didn’t think I would ever need.
Wow, I’m so f***ed up thought, letting out a quiet, but dark laugh. No matter what I did, no matter how far I run, he always ends up finding me and dragging me back to my cruel fate.
I adjust the black wig over my hair, put in my green contacts, and washed off the make-up hiding my tattoos. I decided to ride my IZH 2012 hybrid motorcycle. When I reached my private airport, I saw that my people were already there. There’s a chorus of ‘hello, Boss’s tossed at me, and I nod to each one of them. I start looking around and notice someone missing. Turning to one of my boys, I yell, “Hey, where’s Rosalie?”
A soft voice from behind me said, “Here, Boss.”

After class was over I made my way to to eat lunch with my pack. I hope that our little kitten has lunch with us, my wolf told me. As I sat down with my pack, I kept looking around for Kat. I started to get worried when I couldn't find her. I mind linked my pack, telling them to look for my mate.
"Hey Dmitri, don't worry. She might have just left campus to eat out," Jake, my beta told me. My wolf was starting to get restless, needing to know where our mate was at. I got up from my seat and started to head towards the exit.
"Dmitri where are you going?" I heard Jake yell from behind me. I ignored him. I ran towards the woods, shifting into my wolf and feeling my paws beat against the ground as I run to find a scent of my mate. I could see from the corner of my eyes that the warriors from my pack were following close behind me.
I could feel my wolf pushing toward the surface, trying to take control of our body. I let out a murderous roar, thinking about what could have happened to my precious kitten. I had a lot of dangerous people after me, both in the human and the werewolf world. I was a cruel, heartless person. I was so cold that even my own pack feared me. Just thinking about someone taking my mate away from me made me see red.
After hours of aimless searching, I still couldn't catch the scent of my mate. There was no sign of her anywhere! My pack member urged me to return, telling me that I had an anonymous message from who I assumed was Kat's kidnapper. The note only had one word: tonight. I forced myself to keep from attacking my pack members and returned to my home.
I needed to release some of my anger, so I went to the gym to get some more training, before I fought tonight. When I stepped into the gym, I heard somebody calling my name.
"Hey Salvatore, whatcha doing here?" I turn to see that it was my manager.
"Oh, hey! Nothing, I just needed to let out some steam."
"Oh, alrighty then."
I went to my private locker room to change. As I was taking my shirt off and changing into my boxing shorts, Rick started to talk, behind the door, about the fight that was going on tonight and about how there were going to be very important people there. I saw that he was getting more antsy as he talked more about them.
"Oh really? Well, who's going to be showing up?" I asked him.
"There are going to be two guys, Vincenzo Armani and Stefan Luciano." He opened his mouth to say more but then suddenly closed it, looking around first before whispering to me, "I heard that they are the heads of two of the biggest mafia groups around. They're partners too, so they're not people that anyone would want to mess with or double cross." After he told me this, I thought to myself, why would they want to come see my fight?
As I was working on a punching bag, I continued to think about these people. If they were so big, why hadn't I heard of them before? I stop hitting the punching bag and turned to Rick. "Why are to such important people coming over to see me fight?"
"Well, I heard that Vincenzo has a daughter who is his heir to everything he owns. The money, the power, and the glory of the mafia business, and he has come to find her."
"I wonder who she is " I voice out loud. I go back to train continuing to think about the unpredictable night that ahead me.
